Penuaian Jiwa Borneo (PJB) / Saving the Souls of Borneo. A major gathering of churches in East Malaysia where over 40,000 people were recorded to have attended.
On a personal scale, I wanted to shoot this event as an official photographer since my church was involved. However I was told they have enough photographers, so, I’ll just attend as a volunteer and shoot from where I stand.
Thankfully air tickets have been purchased 6 months before the event, it gets expensive nearer the date.
2 weeks before the event, they realized no photographers from my church were going. So in a scramble, I manage to join 3 others as official media team. Woots!
It is for these events that I serve and be in the position to be able to contribute my little part.
There was rain. Near heavy rain. Many came unprepared. Only my gear was water resistant, but I’ve no hat. Apparently there was a group of us praying for the rain to stop… and there was a group praying for heavy rain to deter people from attending. Saw a drove going away before the event started… to come back with umbrellas. Such dedication! The rain did make us pray even more fervently.
There was crowd. Our venue was changed because last minute, political party came over and wanted the location for their festival. Nevertheless, the new field was still huge. 40,000 people gathering. We had villages who walked half a day just to get there. Cars parked 500 meters away just to avoid congestion. So tempting to buy a drone just to get those aerial shots.
God. God was there too. You can see the healing take place in front of your eyes. The presence of God just grows stronger as song was sung. The hunger in the eyes of the worshipers. When Philip Mantofa sings his favorite 2 songs, Come Holy Spirit Fall On Me Now & The River.
Overall it was worth the trip. A fire in my soul. A reigniting to continue serving.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
