I cracked my Fotile Stove. Glass flew everywhere. Thankfully tempered glass. No one was injured.

The stove has been around for 10 years, and to be efficient, we got a wind shield to contain the flames to save on gas and a quicker boil.

It was all good till I bought a new kettle. You see, all the kuali, pots and pans have a slight curvature at the bottom that allows some heat to escape. But not the new kettle.

Instructed to discard the first boil since it’s a new kettle, not knowing how much water to fill, I filled it near the brim.

You can imagine now with it’s flushed bottom, on top of the wind shield, there was no place for the heat to escape. On top of that, I was just waiting for the whistle to go off when suddenly it went…

The heat was so concentrated on one of the hinges it shattered the whole hob. Pieces of glass flew around the kitchen. Most notably my 3yo son just moved away from it’s direct line of sight to the back of wife, who was already behind a pillar.

A few pieces hit my waist pants and I felt nothing. But on hindsight, those flying pieces, though tempered, are still glass and a projectile.if it hit my waist, it’s about my 3yo’s eye sight.

I thank God no one was injured. Seriously, really thank God for His protection.

Replaced the counter hob with a new one and noted too the warning sticker on this new hob not to use the wind shield.
